Joan Benoit Samuelson and 11 other Boston Marathon champions, including Meb Keflezighi and Bill Rodgers, have launched the Bobbi Gibb Marathon Sculpture Project. The project’s goal is to raise funds to erect a sculpture of Gibb on the Boston Marathon course.

In 1966, Gibb hid in forsythia bushes near the starting line in Hopkinton, jumped into the pack, and became the first woman to run Boston, finishing in 3:21:40.
